Colonel Sanders Is Back! . . . For The Time Being

October 23rd, 2009 | by Christian Rivera |

The Colts announced that strong safety Bob Sanders is coming back this week to play limited snaps against the St. Louis Lambs.  That’s good news for the Sanders owners who have somehow managed to remain patient in hopes that the Colonel comes back sooner than later this season.  Of course, he may only be able to play a handful of games considering his history of injury.

First of all, let me clarify that I’m a huge Sanders fan.  I believe that, in the few precious times when he’s completely healthy, Sanders is the best strong safety on the planet.  In 2007, when he played 15 games, Sanders had such a huge impact on the Colts’ defense that he was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. However, he’s the definition of “injury-prone.”  Sanders has never played a full schedule in his six-game career.  He’s played six, 14, four, 15, and six games from 2004-2008.

I picked him up in an IDP league where his owner finally gave up hope (I certainly don’t blame the other guy) and dropped Sanders earlier this season.  I’m hoping that Sanders gets healthy enough to play a few games and give my team a boost.  Please understand that I’m not counting on Sanders in any way.  Anything he can give my team is simply a bonus.  You should take the same approach if he’s on your team.
